Wetherspoons review, four different pubs, four different locations.
Wetherspoons review – The Picture Palace, Enfield
As far as a pub in a disused cinema goes it’s quite nice. Although in the seating area to the left of the bar the tables are quite close to the toilet doors, and not the best of views from someone siting at a table facing them.
The food, as with the others was fine, some could argue that the portion of chips is quite small, but I found it to be just enough. Awesome beer, the Devil’s Backbone, well done once again for bringing such variety of beers and ales to “the masses”.
Service was fast and polite, but I wish I hadn’t been disturbed in the middle of the meal for some leaflet and menu changes.
Wetherspoons review – Spouter’s Corner, Wood Green.
As far as a good meal (quite acceptable from any point of view) goes, you can’t really do much better than a main and a drink for 6 to 7 pounds. All the weekday “clubs” (curry, fish, steak…) offer a good sized meal and a drink around that price.
The Madras beef curry could have been a touch spicier (it’s “medium” on the menu), but the meat was tender and soft, the sauce nice.
The mango chutney although tasty, it was quite salty and tasted the same like the one in the jar I have in the fridge from the supermarket.
All in all, a nice lunch experience for the money and, like I said, if you’re not hungry, there’s the widest selection of beers and ales that you can find in a pub.
Wetherspoons review – The Moon and Cross, Waltham Cross.
Recently Wetherspoon pubs have changed their food menu. It’s much better. They must have changed lots of “chefs” as well, as the food is prepared to a higher standard than before. Portions and prices are the same, quite good value for money.
The atmosphere in The Moon and Cross is good, quite a few local people use it as their…”local”. As with all pubs of the same chain, these days (they were days when the burger and chips deal for £4,49 was just an adventure to eat) I won’t hesitate to have lunch in any of them.
But if a romantic date or dinner is on the cards, try somewhere else.
Wetherspoons review – The Hope and Champion, Beaconsfield.
Like the title said, this is no different than any other Wetherspoons pub out there. But the fact that it’s situated on a motorway. Same menu and prices, same atmosphere, friendly staff, good prices.
It looks like Wetherspoons have changed quite a few menu items in their pubs (and most probably chefs as well), to better things.
On this occasion I’ve tried the eggs benedict for a quick bite. Fast service, the eggs and ham were tasty, although the eggs were poached “industrially”. Could have been hotter as well.
Also the Hollandaise sauce looked to be on the verge of splitting, quite thick but eatable in the end. If you’re (like I was) hungry.
A run of the mill “Wetherspoons” experience on the M40. Not worth a drive there, but should you get hungry when on the motorway, give it a go.
